Do you want a more even skin tone?
Do you want to target a specific age spot?
Do you want to reduce areas of excess freckling?
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Sun-spots, freckles, liver spots, and other unwanted pigmentation are often associated with skin ageing and sun damage, which is caused by over exposure to the sun or sunbeds.
From the age of around 40 age spots start to appear. Generally these age spots pose no health risk, however they can be unsightly and give the skin a less youthful appearance.
Freckling and age spots are successfully lightened or removed with either Q-switch Laser or Intense Pulse Light.
However not all pigmentation concerns are as a result of sun exposure and some people are born with pigmented birthmarks or may have melasma, a skin pigmentation condition often associated with pregnancy or hormones.
Intense Pulse Light (IPL) skin rejuvenation and pigment removal treatment is a relatively quick and easy procedure. Age spots and freckles can be lightened or removed in as little as one to three treatment sessions. The light targets areas of excess pigment safely breaking down the excess melanin.
The sun-spots or freckles darken in the first few days after treatment and then the excess melanin sheds naturally away.
AM I SUITABLE FOR TREATMENT?
Most people are suitable for treatment except for very dark skinned or tanned individuals. Dark moles should not be treated.
HOW DOES THE INTENSE PULSE LIGHT WORK?
The Intense Pulse Light System releases short pulses of filtered light that is readily absorbed by the high concentration of melanin found within freckles, sun spots or liver spots. The rapid absorption of light energy heats the melanin and destroys the pigmented cells.
AFTER 1 SESSION
HOW WILL I LOOK AFTER TREATMENT?
The skin may be slightly red and the pigment marks will darken and may appear more obvious before they fade away.
Birthmarks and other deeper, larger areas of pigmentation can be more successfully treated with a Q-Switch Laser. The depth of the lesion and its characteristics affect the response to treatment. An initial consultation is required to determine the type of birthmark, at which time treatment options can be discussed.
HOW DOES A Q-LASER WORK?
Q-Switch Laser generates a high powered beam of light which is delivered in an extremely short pulse. The very short pulse is absorbed by the pigmented cells, destroying them. This type of laser is most suitable for large areas of excess pigmentation such as a birthmarks and large age spots
HOW MANY TREATMENTS WILL I NEED?
The total number of treatments required will vary depending upon the type of pigmentation to be treated. Some will need from 1 to 2 sessions or upwards of six sessions if it’s a birthmark. It is important to understand that some birthmarks and pigmentation can re-occur.
WHAT DOES TREATMENT FEEL LIKE?
Treatment is mildly uncomfortable and a warm, tingling sensation not unlike sunburn is experienced afterwards. The treated area may feel itchy but it is important not to scratch.
ARE THERE ANY SIDE EFFECTS?
Most people experience little more than slight reddening and possibly mild swelling which usually disappears anytime from just hours to a couple of days. Very rarely a small blister may form or temporary lightening or darkening of the skin.
